Unsold James Vince cries foul over ECB’s NOC policy favouring IPL 2025 over PSL 10

James Vince claimed that England's new NOC policy favouring IPL over the PSL would do more harm to domestic cricket

England cricket team batter James Vince is disappointed with ECB’s new No-Objection Certificate (NOC) policy that favours the IPL over Pakistan Super League (PSL). He grabbed eyeballs recently with his decision to quit first-class cricket to prioritize PSL instead. Now, he has claimed that the board’s policy “didn’t seem right” while attempting to explain why playing in the PSL was better than IPL.

Vince unhappy with ECB preferring IPL over PSL

Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, Vince claimed that himself, along with a few other players, never understood the ECB’s new policy over providing NOCs for their players to take part in IPL and PSL. He claimed that while the decision stemmed from the relationship between the ECB, BCCI and PCB, it would have made more sense to participate in PSL than in the IPL. He explained that PSL was a shorter competition compared to the IPL and hence taking part in it would reduce the chances of England players missing domestic cricket.

That’s a big one that has caused a lot of confusion. “It’s got to be something to do with relationships between the ECB, PCB and BCCI as to why they’ve come up with that rule. The PSL’s a shorter competition, so if you’re going to play in that, you’re probably missing less domestic cricket than if you’re going to the IPL… It just didn’t seem right,” Vince said.

As per ECB’s new policy, the country’s players are only exempted from playing in the IPL while they are prohibited from taking part in any league that clashes with England’s summer. The County Championship will commence in April, clashing with IPL 2025. Interestingly, Vince had also thrown his hat in the ring in the IPL 2025 auction, registering himself for a base price of Rs 2 crore. However, he found no takers. Instead, he was retained by PSL franchise Karachi Kings. His newfound love for PSL and hatred for IPL seems to have stemmed from the fact that he went unsold in the auction for the next edition of the cash-rich league.
