Shreyas Iyer was handed a lifeline by umpire S Ravi after the official made a blunder by pronouncing a not out decision for a delivery that the batter had clearly edged to the keeper

Umpire S Ravi came under fire on Day 2 of Ranji Trophy second leg after making a blunder in MUM vs J&K match. Fans were irked with the official’s decision to not give Shreyas Iyer out despite a clear edge when the ball went past his bat. The incident occurred during Mumbai’s 2nd innings as the side lost wickets in quick succession on Day 2 of the contest.

Shreyas Iyer gets saved by umpire’s humiliating decision

The incident occurred when Iyer was on 8 runs and he had clearly edged a delivery off Umar Nazir to the keeper. Despite a clear sound being heard, the umpire (S Ravi) decided to give it not out, inviting the wrath of fans on social media. Despite nicking the ball clearly, Iyer stood his ground firmly while the umpire agreed with him, giving the decision in favour of the batter and against J&K.

A few deliveries later, he once again stood firm at the crease despite clearly edging the ball to the keeper once again. This time, the umpire decided to raise his finger. However, Iyer refused to leave the crease. Instead he was spotted having a chat with the officials along with skipper Ajinkya Rahane. Fans took to social media platform X to call out the umpire favourtism towards Mumbai in the contest. They also vented out their frustration on Iyer for deciding to stay in the crease even when he knew that he had clearly edged the delivery.

Hardik Tamore flopped once again while Iyer was finally dismissed after getting a lifeline thanks to the umpire’s blunder. MUM’s woes compunded with Shivam Dube being dismissed for a second consecutive duck. In the 1st innings, Iyer only managed to score 11 runs.
