“Totally finished”: Aakash Chopra slams BCCI management for ending Yuzvendra Chahal’s career

Yuzvendra Chahal last played for India in August 2023 in T20I against West Indies

Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra has slammed the BCCI and Team Management for effectively ending the career of Yuzvendra Chahal. Last week the India squad for the ICC Champions Trophy was announced as Chahal was not a part of it. Chopra claimed that despite having a good record in white ball cricket, Chahal had been dropped from ODIs two years back.

Interestingly, Chahal even failed to make a return to the T20I setup as India takes on England in a 5-match T20I series. Chahal’s last ODI match came in January of 2023 against New Zealand. He also played his last T20I for India in August 2023 against West Indies. Following this, he has been completely ignored by the team management.

No chance for Yuzvendra Chahal

Aakash Chopra was left bewildered that the leggie was ignored despite having good stats to back him up. Chahal however, didn’t take part in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25.

“Yuzvendra Chahal has been totally finished. His file has been closed. I have got no idea why they did that. It is an interesting case. He last played in January 2023. So it’s been two years for him. His numbers are also very good. He has picked up a lot of wickets and was consistently doing well,” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

Chopra argued that Chahal has good stats in ODIs. The 34-year-old leggie has played 72 ODI matches for the country where he has managed to scalp 121 wickets. Aakash Chopra claimed that since Chahal has not been in the setup for almost 2 years, there was no way he was even considered to be a part of the ICC Champions Trophy squad.

“Because it’s been two years since it (Chahal’s file) has been closed, there is no place for Yuzi also here because as soon as you suddenly pick him out of the blue, it will be seen as a regressive step,” Chopra concluded.
