Former England cricketer David Llyod fired a warning to Arshdeep Singh ahead of ICC Champions Trophy. The left-armed pacer will be playing his first big ICC event in the 50-over format in the marquee tournament. Singh has been picked in the team for his ability to deliver with the new ball. However, his lack of experience in ODIs, will be a concern for India in Dubai.
Arshdeep Singh warned before Champions Trophy
Speaking to talkSPORT, Llyod warned Arshdeep that the Champions Trophy was not T20 cricket or a little party. He noted that bowlers must be used to bowling long spells and that this was something that the pacer was not used to. He further urged other teams to test Arshdeep and get into him.
“This is not T20, this not a little party, you’ve got to come back and come back again, and that is something he won’t be used to. If you are the opposition, test him out, really get into him,” he said.

Arshdeep was named in the squad as captain Rohit Sharma and coach Gambhir trusted him to deliver with the new ball. He was preferred over Siraj for the same reason. But what was baffling was that he played only in the IND vs ENG 3rd ODI after warming the bench for the first two games. The southpaw impressed with figures of 2/33 in the only match he featured in. However, his lack of experience playing ODIs can come back to haunt India. Arshdeep has only played 9 ODIs to date.
Rohit Sharma and co. will enter the contest without the services of their best bowler Jasprit Bumrah. In the absence of the veteran duo of Bumrah & Siraj, the pace department comprises of Hardik Pandya, Mohammed Shami, Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh. While the attack looks good on paper, there are doubts over their ability to deliver at the big stage.
