‘This is circus’, Haris Rauf walks out to bat without pads in BBL match

Express pacer Haris Rauf is representing Melbourne Stars in the ongoing Big Bash League.

Haris Rauf has become quite popular in the Big Bash League (BBL). Playing for Melbourne Stars, Haris Rauf has become the fans favourite. In a hilarious incident on Saturday (December 23), Rauf did not even wear helmet, gloves, or pads initially. The reason behind his decision was there was only one ball left in the innings and Rauf was at the non-strikers’ end.

This is circus: Commentator on Rauf’s act

The on-field umpires did not allow him to do that, and thus, Haris Rauf had to take gloves and helmet to stay there for safety. Still, he did not take his pads, leaving a commentator to remark ‘this is circus’ on air.

Rauf did not even wear both his gloves, whereas Daniel Sams, who took two wickets and inflicted a run-out before bowling his final ball, left completely stunned in the middle.

Speaking about Melbourne Stars vs Sydney Thunders match, Stars posted 172 in their full quota of 20 overs thanks to Beau Webster’s 44-ball 59 and contributions from skipper Glenn Maxwell (30 off 26), Hilton Cartwright (22 off 11) and Thomas Rogers (21 off 16). For Thunder, Daniel Sams grabbed a four-wicket haul while Zaman Khan took three. Thunder skipper Chris Green and Liam Hatcher took one apiece.

In response, Alex Hales and Cameron Bancroft set the platform with their 78-run stand for the opening wicket. Other batters chipped in with cameos without any run-rate pressure and Thunder eventually sealed the deal with 10 balls remaining. Hales top-scored for Thunder with 40 off 26. Bancroft made 30 off 20. Sams remained unbeaten on 22 off 13. For Stars, Webster ended with four wickets.
