Life must be good for Rinku Singh right now. Not too long ago from now, he was struggling with IPL side Kolkata Knight Riders before his breakout IPL season in 2023. The southpaw first got a call-up in India’s T20 team against Ireland later in the year. After nailing his place in India’s T20 team, he received his ODI call-up against South Africa. On Friday, he was named in the India A side for England’s practice match before the start of the IND vs ENG Test series. Is a Test call-up on the horizon for Rinku Singh?
Rinku has hardly disappointed since donning the national jersey. The world sat up and took notice of Rinku when he hit 5 consecutive sixes to win an impossible match for KKR. Since then, he has gone from strength to strength.
In T20Is, Rinku Singh averages an incredible 89 runs per match, scoring 356 runs in 15 matches. Although he has only featured in two ODIs for India, he has scored 55 runs including a crunch innings of 38 runs.
Those who follow List A cricket know Rinku is no stranger to the longer format of the game, no matter how adept he is in the shorter formats. The left-handed batter averages a solid 48 in List A cricket, and can pace his innings according to the need of the game. So it won’t be surprise in Rinku Singh is named in the squad for the last three Tests of the England series. Rinku will definitely hope so.
