The semi-finalists of the T20 World Cup 2026 are yet to be decided, but the participants for the 2028 edition, that is to take place in Pakistan, have already come out. The teams finishing in the top 4 of Group A and Group B make it to the main draw of the T20 World Cup 2028. From Group A — Australia, India, South Africa and Bangladesh have qualified, and from Group B, England, West Indies, New Zealand and Sri Lanka go through.

9 teams finalised for T20 World Cup 2028

Despite finishing 5th in the points table, they qualify by virtue of being the hosts for the 2028 World Cup. The likes of Scotland, Ireland and the Netherlands miss the cut. As far as the other teams are concerned, the next 10th spot will go the highest ranked team, with the cut-off being set as July 6, 2026.

For now, by all means that side could be Ireland, who are currently ranked 9th in the world. As for the remaining two spots, they will be decided by continental qualifiers. But before that, Sri Lanka is gearing to host the inaugural Women’s Champions Trophy, which will be played in the T20 format.

Along with the hosts, top 5 sided will join the tournament, with July 6 as the cut off date for the eligibility. For now, those teams would be Australia, England, India, New Zealand, and South Africa. It will only be a two-week tournament, with the proceedings starting on Feb 14, 2027 and ending on Feb 28, 2027.

Coming back to the ongoing tournament, the Indian team is in a tight spot regarding the semis qualification. They need to win their last league match vs Australia to go through. If they fail to do so, they would have to hope that Bangladesh also beat South Africa in the last match. NRR will also come into play.
