T20 World Cup Final, NZ vs AUS: Australia thrash favourites New Zealand in final – “Intuition gone wrong, this team is something else under pressure,” Yuvraj Singh summed up what Australia is in a World Cup final. Not many believed Australia would even qualify for the semifinals but Australia stunned everyone and lifted their maiden T20 World Cup trophy with an eight-wicket thrashing of rivals New Zealand. Josh Hazlewood, David Warner and Mitchell Marsh were the heroes of the final.
The entire team didn’t play together for nearly a year, many were in off form and they lost to Bangladesh in a T20 series coming into the tournament. Yet, Australia fired when they needed to. They qualified with a win over defending champions West Indies and found their form.

First they thrashed one of the favourites Pakistan in the semifinal and that was the boost they needed. On Sunday, everything went their way. Aaron Finch won the toss, restricted New Zealand in the powerplay. Josh Hazlewood’s 3/19 spell was exceptional. Even though Kane Williamson played a rescue act with a brilliant 85-run knock to set 173 target, it wasn’t enough.
David Warner set the platform in the chase with a 38-ball 53 and then Mitchell Marsh hammered his way with a 50-ball 77 to power Australia to an eight-wicket victory.

Yuvraj Singh was very impressed with Australia and so was Harbhajan Singh and other Indian stars.
