Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021 Live: Karnataka vs Mumbai – Ajinkya Rahane’s knock of 75 went in vain as Mumbai is defeated by Karnataka by 9 runs in a Elite Group B of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Mumbai were restricted to 157 runs by Karnataka bowlers while chasing the target of 167. Initially, Mumbai were in a commanding position to chase the target but sudden topple of batting line-up cost them a victory. KC Cariappa scalped three wickets, including Ajinkya Rahane’s, while Krishnappa Gowtham picked two wickets.

After opting to bowl first, Mumbai got two early wickets of Mayank Agarwal and Devdutt Padikkal. Mayank who had great IPL season fell for golden duck, while Padikkal for 5 runs. Both the wickets were taken Mohit Avasthi. However, Karnataka batting was revived by Manish Pandey and Karun Nair. Both had shared a brilliant partnership stand of 149-run for third wicket to help the team post a total of 166 on the board. Manish Pandey smashed 84 runs off 64 balls, while Karun Nair played a knock of 72 runs off 53 balls.

Ajinkya Rahane and Siddhesh Lad stitched a partnership stand of 81 runs in order to chase Karnataka’s target. After Lad and Rahane’s wickets, the following batsmen couldn’t help Mumbai to get through. It was a close match as Karnataka managed to register narrow victory.

Karnataka and Mumbai will play their respective second match against Chattisgarh and Services on 5th November. Karnataka vs Chattisgarh match will take place at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati, Assam at 8:00 am, while Mumbai vs Services will take place at Nehru Stadium at 12 pm.
