SWOT analysis of Lucknow Super Giants after IPL 2024 Auction

Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 Auction, let us discuss the SWOT analysis of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have their squad ready for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. LSG mostly bought uncapped players in the IPL 2024 Auction as they had a strong line-up already. Ahead of the new season, let us discuss the SWOT analysis of LSG.

Current squad: KL Rahul (c), Quinton de Kock, Nicholas Pooran, Ayush Badoni, Kyle Mayers, Marcus Stoinis, Deepak Hooda, Ravi Bishnoi, Naveen-ul-Haq, Krunal Pandya, Yudhvir Singh, Prerak Mankad, Yash Thakur, Amit Mishra, Mark Wood, Mayank Yadav, Mohsin Khan, Devdutt Padikkal (Traded), Shivam Mavi, Arshin Kulkarni, M Siddharth, Ashton Turner, David Willey, Mohd. Arshad Khan

Strengths

Lucknow have quality foreign players like Quinton de Kock, Nicholas Pooran, Kyle Mayers, and Marcus Stoinis. Every player has the ability to win the match single-handedly. LSG also have a strong top order with Kyle Mayers, KL Rahul, Nicholas Pooran, and Quinton de Kock. Mayers had an outstanding debut in the IPL 2023 where he scored 379 runs in 13 matches with a strike rate of 144.11.

LSG performed well in their two seasons of IPL. They had finished both the season in third position.

Weaknesses

KL Rahul led team has a weakling in bowling front. Ravi Bishnoi can lead the spin attack but they do not have any reliable pacer. Mark Wood could lead the front but his fitness has been in question. In the last season, he had taken 11 wickets in four matches but then became unavailable.

Opportunities

LSG have made it to the playoffs in both seasons but they have failed to feature in finals. They would like to make it to the final this time. Devdutt Padikkal will try to make an impact with his batting to make a case for his position in India’s T20I team. Uncapped players like Arshin Kulkarni and Shivam Mavi have the opportunity to shine in the biggest cricket League.

Threats

Lucknow have their top order heavy with foreign players, but if they become unavailable in the middle of the tournament then they can face problems. They are relying on Wood but if he fails to deliver then their pace attack will get exposed.
