Suryakumar Yadav travels to England for surgery, could miss India vs Bangladesh series: Report

India is scheduled to play 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is against Bangladesh right after the tour of England.

India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav is set for a spell on the sidelines with another injury issue. Suryakumar Yadav has reportedly flown to London for another surgery ahead of a busy Indian season. The 33-year-old is likely to miss out on a few months of action, putting his participation in the India vs Bangladesh series in doubt.

Suryakumar Yadav to undergo sports hernia surgery

As per News24 reporter Vaibhav Bhola, Suryakumar Yadav has travelled to England to undergo medical treatment. India’s T20I captain recently featured in the T20 Mumbai League but now has taken a break to treat himself. The report suggests the 33-year-old has suffered a sports hernia on his right side.

Yadav is no stranger to sports hernia, having previously suffered on his left side. The Mumbai Indians superstar had then travelled to Germany for the procedure in January 2024. He recovered in time to feature in the subsequent IPL and the T20 World Cup, which India won in the West Indies and USA.

Given the timeline, Suryakumar is likely to miss at least one or two months of cricket. It comes as a huge blow with Surya being in the form of his life. The 33-year-old was named the MVP of the IPL 2025 season, scoring in excess of 25 in each of Mumbai Indians’ games.

His recovery could rule him out of the India vs Bangladesh series, slated for August. The Men in Blue play 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is right after the conclusion of the India vs England series. Should Yadav miss out, India would look towards filling that role. Shubman Gill is the current T20 vice-captain but could opt for rest after the England tour.
