Suryakumar Yadav shares update after successful sports hernia surgery

Suryakumar Yadav successfully underwent a sports hernia surgery in his lower right abdomen and is on the road to recovery

India cricket team T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav successfully underwent a sports hernia surgery in his lower right abdomen on Wednesday. The Mumbai batter had travelled to Munich, Germany for the procedure and has now commenced recovery. SKY was last seen in action for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025.

Suryakumar Yadav’s surgery successful

Taking to social media platform Instagram, Surya shared an update for the fans, informing that his surgery was successful and that he was on the road to recovery. The Indian T20I captain said that he was looking forward to returning to action soon.

Underwent surgery for a sports hernia in the lower right abdomen. Grateful to share that after a smooth surgery, I’m already on the road to recovery. Can’t wait to be back,” Suryakumar wrote.

Yadav is no stranger to sports hernia, having previously suffered on his left side. The Mumbai Indians superstar had then travelled to Germany for the procedure in January 2024. He recovered in time to feature in the subsequent IPL and the T20 World Cup, which India won in the West Indies and USA.

Given the timeline, Suryakumar is likely to miss at least one or two months of cricket. The Men in Blue play 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is right after the conclusion of the India vs England series. Should Yadav miss out, India would look towards filling that role. Shubman Gill is the current T20 vice-captain but could opt for rest after the England tour.
