Walking into bat after captain Rohit Sharma was dismissed, Suryakumar Yadav was at his very best on his surface. With the required run rate always climbing, SKY did not waste any time and got going straightaway to keep his side in the hunt.

The MI vice-captain picked up 3 boundaries of Liam Livingstone and continued his carnage against Nathan Ellis and Sam Curran. While Surya has struggled for form, on Saturday he looked at his vintage best, scooping and pulling his way through the Punjab Kings bowling line-up.

He eventually got to his half-century in 23 balls, the fastest he has taken to reach the milestone. It was also his first half-century on the tournament and signalled his return to form after a minor slump. Surya eventually managed 57 off 26 balls, but couldn’t take his team over the line. MI stuttered and fell 13 runs short in the end. But it was Surya and his partnership with Cameron Green that even got the hosts anywhere closer to the score.
