Suryakumar Yadav consolidates position at top of T20I rankings with gritty half-century

SKY scored a magnificent 56 of 36 balls in the 2nd T20I to help India reach the total of 180 in 19.3 overs

There’s no stopping Suryakumar Yadav! India’s T20I captain has further consolidated his position as the number 1 batter of T20 Cricket with another half-century in the IND vs SA 2nd T20I.

SKY scored a magnificent 56 of 36 balls in the 2nd T20I to help India reach the total of 180 in 19.3 overs. However, his half-century went in losing cause as South Africa achieved the target of 152 with seven balls to spare in a rain-curtailed match.

Despite not winning the match, SKY’s half-century earned him 10 points in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s T20I Batter Rankings. With the points, SKY moved up to 865 rating points, creating a huge gap with the next batter in the list i.e. Mohammad Rizwan, who is on 787 rating points.

Suryakumar stormed to the top of the rankings during the T20I World Cup in Australia last year, and on the basis of his current form, he is likely to retain his top spot into next year’s T20I World Cup in West Indies and the United States.

However, personal achievements come a distant second for Suryakumar Yadav, as the Indian captain was left disappointed by the loss in the IND vs SA 2nd T20I.

“It was tough. I told the boys that we are coming out of the comfort zone, we have to something different. This situation can come in the future as well, so you have to be prepared as well,” Suryakumar said after the match.

Surya also praised opponents South Africa, who had a better day with the bat than the Indians.

“They batted beautifully in the first 5-6 overs and took the game away from us. It was the brand of cricket we were talking about, just go out and express ourselves. It was tough with the wet ball, but we would face similar situations in the future and it’s a good learning for us,” Suryakumar Yadav said.
