As per reports, Gavaskar’s mother is said to have passed away in the morning due to age related ailments. However Gavaskar showed no signs of the grief as he continued his commentary of the fourth day of the second Test match between India and Bangladesh. India went on to win the match within the first session of the day. Later Gavaskar was also seen signing bats to the fans.
Gavaskar’s mother has been suffering with health related issues for over a year now. Earlier this year during the IPL, she was hospitalised. Gavaskar who was commentating for Star Sports had to step out of the bio-bubble to attend his ailing mother.
73-year old Sunil Gavaskar is one of India’s legendary batsmen. His career spans from 1971 to 1987 during which he has scored 10,125 runs from 125 Tests that includes 34 centuries. He has also played 108 ODIs for India, scoring 3,092 runs.
Gavaskar was the first batsman in the world to go past 10,000 runs in Test cricket. He has also captained India in 47 Test matches and 37 ODIs.
After his playing career, he has become a commentator. With the Bangladesh vs India Test match wrapped up in four days, Gavaskar is likely to fly back to India soon for the final rites of his mother. Gavaskar will also be joined by his son Rohan Gavaskar, who is also a former Indian cricketer Like his father, Rohan too has taken up commentary.
