Prithvi Shaw, who has faced criticism recently for his fitness and form, also interacted with Gavaskar. The young batter, dropped from Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad due to discipline issues, seemed at ease in the company of the cricketing stalwarts. Gavaskar has previously come to Shaw’s defense, urging cricket authorities to handle the youngster with care.
“I couldn’t miss the start of this iconic celebration. Wankhede has given Indian cricket many unforgettable memories, including the 2011 World Cup win. It’s an honor to be here,” Gavaskar said during his speech. He also credited the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) for shaping his career from his early days in school cricket.
The event was a star-studded affair, with Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma, Dilip Vengsarkar, and Ravi Shastri also expected to attend the main celebration on January 19. The MCA plans to honor groundsmen and players from Mumbai’s first-class team at the event.
