Who will lead Chennai Super Kings after IPL 2024? As CSK have maintained silence over the matter, head coach Stephen Fleming has revealed their discussions. On the sidelines of IPL 2024 Auction, Fleming said that captain MS Dhoni has been involved in discussions over his succession plan for a long time.
Against notion, MS Dhoni decided to hang on for another year in IPL 2024 to “thank the fans”. However, it is understood that IPL 2024 will be his last and CSK need a succession plan.
“MS Dhoni is as engaged and enthusiastic as we have seen in a while. We have had his succession plan for a long time,” Stephen Fleming said on Tuesday.
CSK have Ravindra Jadeja and Ruturaj Gaikwad as two options after Ben Stokes was let go. However, a lot could depend on who CSK pick up at the IPL 2025 mega auction. But for now, apart from Jadeja, Gaikwad has emerged as the favourite to replace MS Dhoni.
Former India pacer Zaheer Khan too backed Ruturaj Gaikwad, who led India to Asian Games gold recently.
“Ruturaj Gaikwad has got the opportunity to captain at highest level. So, for sure, he will be in the discussions,” Zaheer Khan said at the IPL 2024 auction show on JioCinema.
