SRH write to BCCI after washout in Hyderabad knocks them out of IPL 2025

The rain had stopped before the cut-off time, but the ground was in no condition to continue.

The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) aren’t pleased with the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA). Last time, they alleged that the board was harassing them for tickets. This time they aren’t satisfied with the ground conditions and drainage at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

SRH unhappy with HCA

Last night, SRH restricted the Delhi Capitals to just 133. They were in charge throughout the first innings and would have likely chased the target down with ease. But rain spoilt the party. It pelted down for an hour, and even though the match could have restarted with time left on the clock, the ground was in no condition for play to resume.

The HCA have admitted that they need to improve. “We will address the issue,” an official told Cricbuzz. Although the square was covered quickly, puddles were created near the boundary. “We still covered 90 per cent of the ground,” the official added.

But SRH aren’t happy. They claim that 90% of the ground wasn’t covered. Especially in time. “It’s sad. We are going to write to the BCCI,” senior franchise officials said. Had play resumed, SRH could have still been in the race for the IPL 2025 playoffs. And even though qualification would have been virtually impossible, they would have still had a chance.

Considering SRH pays the HCA Rs 1 crore for each match, they expect better. Grounds like the MA Chidambaram and M Chinnaswamy have excellent drainage. And there was a big possibility that the match would have resumed had the same happened there.

HCA to up their game

Eden Gardens doesn’t have the drainage that these two grounds do, but they cover the entire ground. Neither of these things happened at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. SRH expect better, and the HCA are planning to improve in quick time, as they will host the IPL 2025 Qualifier 1 and Eliminator.
