Neeraj Chopra’s Diamond League Title defence and Asian Games Gold 

Neeraj Chopra’s biggest aim in 2023 would be to defend his Diamond League title. The 24-year old created history in 2022 by becoming the first-ever Indian to lift the Diamond League Trophy.

Diamond League is a series of meetings held every year from May to September. Athletes will compete in atleast for or upto eight events and the players collecting the most points will advance to the final. Chopra is currently training in England to prepare for the 2023 season. His 2023 Diamond League campaign in Doha on May 5 in Qatar.

Meanwhile, the Indian will also eye another big record. Having won the Asian Games Gold medal in 2018, Chopra has a chance to become the first-ever Indian to win back-to-back Gold in Athletics in the prestigious event.

India aim historic Hockey World title

One of the big sporting event at the start of the year would be the Hockey World Cup. The event is set to be held in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela from 13th January 2023. All eyes will be on India as the hosts aim to lift the Hockey World Cup title. The Men in Blue last won the title way back in 1975.

India’s Men’s Hockey team have been performing well in recent times. They made it to the podium during the 2021 Olympics by securing Bronze. The team led by Manpreet Singh also went on to finish as runner-up at the Commonwealth Games. These performances have raised the expectations on the side and the upcoming World Cup will be one of the events to look forward to in 2023.

Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic have chance to surpass Margaret Court’s tally of 24 Grand Slam titles

2023 will be the first year in Tennis since the retirement of Roger Federer. While Federer has hang up his boots after winning 20 Grand Slams, two other great players of this era are still going strong. Both Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, having already surpassed Federer’s tally of Grand Slam titles, now eye a big record.

Nadal has 22 Grand Slam titles to his name. He won the Australian Open and the French Open titles in 2022. Meanwhile, despite a not so great year, Djokovic won his 21st Grand Slam title at the Wimbledon. Now in 2023, both these players have a chance to go past or atleast equal Margaret Court’s tally of 24 Grand Slam titles.

Court is the player with most Grand Slam titles in the history of Tennis so far. While Nadal is towards the fag end of his career, Djokovic still has few more years left in his career. Though it will be difficult, these players now have a realistic chance of going past Court’s tally in 2023 itself.

Lewis Hamilton – to Challenge Max Verstappen for the New Drivers World Cup Championship

Veteran Lewis Hamilton wants to become world champion again so he can retire from Formula 1 on a high. However, Max Verstappen who had an excellent outing in the 2022, winning back-to-back titles will be in his way. To note, If Hamilton wins, he will have 8 WDC, the most by any driver in the history of F1.

India to challenge for AFC Asian Cup in 2023

On June 14 2022, waves of ecstasy spread across the Indian football fraternity, as the Blue Tigers qualified for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup. While the journey so far has been remarkable, the real challenge starts now, as Sunil Chhetri & Co. will rub shoulders will some of the biggest teams of Asian. Long time coming for team India

Come 2023, it will be 12 years since the Men in Blue lifted the prized World Cup. Under the leadership of MS Dhoni, the home team defeated all the odds and came out victorious in the 2011 World Cup. In 2023, team India has a golden opportunity to repeat the same antics of 2011. The Men in Blue will probably be under the leadership of Rohit Sharma as the Men in Blue will look to redeem themselves after several disappointing outings in major tournaments.
