It all happened when the next man in, Mathews was late in facing the first ball due to a helmet issue, and an appeal by Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan ruled him out, putting Sri Lanka in a spot of bother.

Now as things stand, the World Cup 2023 is already over for these two teams, but they have a match to play. Sri Lanka takes on New Zealand on November 9, while Bangladesh will face Australia on the 11th. Both the Asian nations have played eight matches so far, and have identical four points to show. But for now, in the points table, Bangladesh is a notch ahead of the Lankas, due to their superior net run-rate.
