SriLanka have come clutch and sealed a place in the T20 World Cup super 12 with a convincing 16-run win over the Netherlands. In a straight shootout for a berth in the next round, the Lankans held their nerve to seal their progress.
Opting to bat first, Sri Lanka got off to a shaky start with Nissanka struggling to get going. Mendis on the other end played some delightful shots to keep the scoreboard ticking after the loss of two wickets.

Charith Asalanka put on a vital 60-run stand with Mendis as SL managed a little over run a ball until the 14th over. Kusal then upped the ante and reached his half-century with Bhanuka Rajapaksa for support. Eventually, Shanaka’s side out on 162, with Kusal Mendis top scoring with 79.
In response, Netherlands lost Vikramjit Singh early as Sri Lanka run riot in the powerplay. The Dutch were reduced to 47/3 with Max O’Dowd fighting a lone battle.
Wickets continued to plunder but Scott Edwards played a fine cameo to give his side some fleeting hope. However, spinners Maheesh Theekshana and Wanindu Hasaranga ended all those hopes in Geelong. O’Dowd went on a hitting spree late to keep the match interesting but couldn’t drag hid side home.
