Six-time World Cup winner excluded from Australia’s central contract list, uncapped all-rounder included

Jess Jonassen has been one of the best spinners for the Australian women's team, and has won six World Cups in different formats.

Australia has revealed their contract list for the 2025/26 season and there have been a few surprising calls made. While Cricket Australia has included an uncapped bowling all-rounder, they have left out a six-time World Cup winner. But for starters, the much-deserved Georgia Voll made an entry to the list, after her sensational rise in international cricket.

Jess Jonassen Out, Tess Flintoff In

After making her debut only in December last year, she has been in sublime form, has already scored a century in ODIs, and was also named the ICC Player of the Month, in March, for her contribution in the New Zealand series. Coming to the surprise call, the decision-makers decided to get in uncapped Tess Flintoff in the list of 18 players.

Though she had come up with decent Australia A showing in the England A series, the all-rounder’s inclusion has managed to raise the eyebrows. And that has come at the expense of leaving out a formidable spinner like Jess Jonassen, who last played for Australia almost a year back.

Australia selector Shawn Flegler said, “Tess is an exciting young player who we can see having a long future in the green and gold. Having overcome injury we’re looking forward to seeing her fit and firing throughout summer which adds further depth to our pace-bowling stocks.

“Georgia has made a sensational start to her international career, showing her immense talent from the onset and playing a pivotal role for the team in the absence of Alyssa Healy at the top of the order. Her ability to adapt to the various formats has been impressive and will come into play with an ODI World Cup later this year and a multi-format series against India in the new year.

“While Jess Jonassen has not been included on this year’s list, we’re always keeping an eye on players outside of the squad and she is no exception,” she added.

Australia’s contracted women’s players 2025/26: Darcie Brown, Tess Flintoff, Ashleigh Gardner, Kim Garth, Heather Graham, Grace Harris, Alyssa Healy, Alana King, Phoebe Litchfield, Tahlia McGrath, Sophie Molineux, Beth Mooney, Ellyse Perry, Megan Schutt, Annabel Sutherland, Tayla Vlaeminck, Georgia Voll, Georgia Wareham
