Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill is making a strong case to make his comeback to the T20I side. After scoring 6 half-centuries in IPL 2026, the GT captain finally managed to breach the triple-figure mark in the season, taking 47 deliveries to reach the milestone. This hundred marks Gill’s fifth in the Indian Premier League, and his first in the ongoing season. The hundred came at a much-needed time as GT are chasing a 215-run target to make it to the IPL 2026 final.

Shubman Gill slams yet another IPL century

Gill has scored the fastest hundred by a GT batter in the history of the IPL, taking just 47 deliveries to reach the milestone. He scored 15 fours and 3 sixes en route to his century, striking at over 200. Prior to this innings, he took 49 deliveries to reach his hundred. Gill was dismissed for 104 runs off 53 balls as he was trapped for an LBW off Jofra Archer’s final delivery of the 15th over, bringing the curtains down on a magnificent innings.

Ahead of the Qualifier 2 against RR, Gill’s highest score in the IPL 2026 was 86. He now has over 700 runs to his name in the ongoing season. He averages over 50 and has a strike rate of over 160.

Talking about Gill’s T20I career, he made his debut for Team India in January 2023. However, after returning to the T20I squad last year, he failed to make it to the squad for the T20 World Cup 2026 despite being a part of the ODI and the Test format. Gill played 15 T20Is in 2025 in which he managed to score just 291 runs. Overall, he has played 36 T20Is in which he has scored 869 runs.

Nevertheless, his performance in IPL 2026, which has seen the batter clock over 700 runs, puts him in a prime position to return to the T20I setup. However, since he essays the role of an opener, a re-entry is quite tough at the moment. Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma are already the established openers for Team India. There is also Vaibhav Sooryavanshi waiting in line.
