The entire Indian team has departed for England ahead of the highly anticipated five-match Test series. The new captain and head coach duo of Shubman Gill and Gautam Gambhir attended a pre-series press conference on Thursday, June 5, after which the entire senior squad assembled in the Mumbai airport.
Initially, Team India was supposed to leave in batches for England. However, it isn’t the case, as the players, who are not part of the India ‘A’ team, left together late on Thursday night. As for the India ‘A’ team, which includes seven senior squad members too, who are already in England. They will be joined by the rest of the team members and support staff on Friday, June 6.
Gill, Bumrah, Pant lead entire Test team
In the wee hours on Friday, the BCCI shared the snapshots of players from the Mumbai Airport. Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, and Jasprit Bumrah were all present alongside the likes of Gautam Gambhir, Prasidh Krishna, and Mohammed Siraj. Fascinatingly, Arshdeep Singh and Kuldeep Yadav have jetted off as well. While Kuldeep got engaged to his childhood friend recently, Arshdeep was in action a couple of days before, as he is the only Test player who was part of the IPL 2025 final.
The entire team, who had boarded for England via a stop in Dubai, were seen in the new official athleisure kit of India. While previously it was all white and blue Adidas strip, now, the entire look of the kit has been changed, with dark blue and orange colours dominating.
Senior India squad to play 1 intra-squad match
Before the all-important five-match Test series kicks off at Headingley on June 20, the senior team will play an intra-squad match against India A. On June 13, the Shubman Gill-led team will get into action to prepare for the major World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 series. It will be a warm-up practice game in Beckenham.
Meanwhile, India ‘A’, who get a KL Rahul boost, will play their second four-day first-class game against England Lions. The second unofficial Test begins in Northampton from today onwards. The first unofficial test ended in a draw, with Karun Nair scoring a double century. Nair might have an extended run in the main team as well now that there’s a massive hole in the Indian batting lineup post Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s retirement.
