Shubman Gill finally comes good, slams gritty fifty for Punjab in Ranji Trophy

Shubman Gill had a rather poor outing for India in the recently concluded Border Gavaskar Trophy

Talk about making a comeback. Talk about waging a lone war. That has been Shubman Gill. After scoring a mere 4 runs in the first innings, the ace top-order batter is back scoring runs against a tough opposition. Apart from Ravindra Jadeja, Gill becomes the only silver lining among the Indian stars who made a return to the Ranji Trophy.

Fighting against a tough opposition, Gill, leading the side has been playing the knock of a captain. The young batter played a crucial knock en route to a well-fought fifty. But as things stand, despite his well-struck knock, it won’t be enough for Punjab to save the match.

Shubman Gill shows class

One of the things that has bothered Gill is his need to play a release shot after playing dot balls. Fans have often criticized the young batter for showing a lack of temperament in red-ball cricket. But today it was a different scene to behold. Knowing that his team was in trouble, Gill didn’t risk playing any big shots.

Gill started eating deliveries at will, extending his stay at the crease and thereby ensuring his team didn’t back down without a fight. Batting with a strike rate close to 42, he hammered 7 fours and a solitary six to reach his half-century.

The BCCI made it clear that Indian stars will have to take part in domestic cricket after the disappointing BGT series. Gill on his return had a torrid return in the first innings. He was dismissed cheaply after managing to score just 4 runs.
