“Gill did not make mistake that England did”: Captain praised for flawless knock

Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan was in awe of Shubman Gill's technique after his 269-run knock in ENG vs IND 2nd Test

Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan heaped praise on Shubman Gill for his flawless knock at Edgbaston in ENG vs IND 2nd Test. The India cricket team skipper went on to record his highest Test score with a 269-run knock that also saw him break multiple records. Vaughan, a vocal critic of the Indian team, was in awe of Gill with respect to how he structured his innings.

“Credit for his concentration”

Speaking on Cricbuzz following play on Day 2, Vaughan said that Gill deserves credit for the concentration that he put in during his knock. He said that the Indian captain made no mistake at all while England had committed three of them which led to loss of wickets. Vaughan stated that Gill’s innings was flawless not because he was batting on a flat surface but because he never erred.

When you see someone play so well, the first thing, and we have all been talking about it, that it is a flat wicket. When England went out to bat, they lost three wickets because they made three mistakes, Shubman Gill did not make a mistake. So, I am going to give him a huge amount of credit for his concentration, his dedication to making sure that he can stay in, and then the pure strokeplay,” Vaughan said.

Vaughan ranked Gill’s innings among the greatest that he had ever seen. He credited the Indian captain for putting the team in a dominating position after starting the series on a losing note. Vaughan also lauded Gill for enhancing his technique, adding that he made the lives of England bowlers very tough.

England have tried challenging that LBW that Gill has been vulnerable to in the past, but I think at the minute his technique is so good that he’s given him the chance to just say, ‘You know what, you can bowl whatever you want, my technique will look after me.’ This is his time to create a legacy as a leader, and as a batter,” he added.
