There is hardly any player who looks as delightful as Shubman Gill. When in full flow, Gill’s class is just miles above the rest and the Ahmedabad crowd witnessed the same in the ongoing third one-day international between India and England. Gill, who hammered half-centuries in the first two ODIs, put away another magnificent start. In doing so, he even claimed a superb record to his name, becoming the fastest-ever player to get to 2,500 runs in ODI history.
Shubman Gill & his ODI brilliance
Among Indians, it was Shreyas Iyer who held the record. The Mumbai batter, who has been India’s permanent number four, got to his landmark in his 59th innings. However, Gill is playing just his 50th ODI knock, reaching the landmark with as many as nine innings earlier. In overall ODIs, it was South Africa’s Hashim Amla, who held the record. The former Protea great got his first 2,500 ODI runs in just 53 innings. He went on to score 8,113 runs in ODIs.
Gill has been on fire just before the ICC Champions Trophy ! He’s scored two consecutive fifty-plus scores in the ongoing ODI series against England, helping India secure dominant wins. His 87 runs in the first ODI and 60 runs in the second ODI were superb to watch. Gill’s exceptional form is a huge boost for India as they get ready for the ICC Champions Trophy.
