Dhawan’s absence is a huge blow for Punjab Kings, with the skipper leading from the front. Dhawan is the orange cap leader with 233 runs to his name in 4 games.

With Liam Livingstone also ruled out, Dhawan has carried the batting unit on his shoulders. He scored an unbeaten 86 and 99 in two of his four games this season, carrying his bat till the 2oth over. In his absence, Punjab Kings have handed a debut to hard-hitting Atharva Taide.
It is the first time Sam Curran has ever captained an official match across all formats of the game. He becomes just the third England player to captain an IPL match, after Kevin Pietersen and Eoin Morgan. Punjab Kings paid a whopping Rs 18.25 crore to sign Curran in the IPL Auction and will hope that he can form a good deputy to Dhawan.
