Setback for Yuvraj Singh – BCCI says no to comeback: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to red-signal former India allrounder Yuvraj Singh’s attempt to make a comeback in the domestic cricket. Yuvi was attempting to make a return to domestic cricket via forthcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 by representing Punjab. Yuvraj, who had retired from Indian cricket in June 2019, had written to the BCCI to allow him to make his return but the board decided otherwise.
As per the rules, an Indian player who has been part of any foreign league can’t make his comeback to IPL or domestic cricket. The same rule saw the BCCI asking Kolkata Knight Riders to drop Pravin Tambe as he had played a T10 league.
Given his stature, many expected Yuvraj to be given a green signal but the board stuck to the rules. It is to be noted that Ambati Rayudu, in 2019, made his return to domestic cricket after announcing retirement during the World Cup. Since he hadn’t participated in any foreign league, he didn’t even need the BCCI’s permission to reverse his decision.
Following his retirement, Yuvraj went on to play Global T20 Canada and T10 league. Since the BCCI has now denied him the permission, the fans might see Yuvraj featuring in more foreign leagues soon.
Punjab’s regular captain Mandeep Singh will lead the state team in the upcoming T20 tournament. He will be assisted by Gurkleerat Singh Mann, who is one of the capped players in the squad.
Yuvraj Singh is hailed as one of the best all-rounders the Indian team has ever had. He has featured in 58 T20 Internationals wherein he has scored 1177 runs at a strike rate of 136.38 with his highest score being 77*. Also, he has picked 28 wickets at an economy of 7.06 and with the best bowling figures of 3/17.
