Tristan Stubbs was the biggest draw of the SA20 Auction after the young South African wicket-keeper bagged a whopping R9.2M deal with the Sunrisers Eastern Cape. Stubbs, who played for Mumbai Indians in the IPL, was chased down by the MI Cape Town, but it was Sunrisers who eventually got his signature.

Stubbs was amongst the only three players to go above the R6m mark, with fellow Eastern Cape teammate Marco Jansen also earning a huge sum. Jansen who played for the Sunrisers Hyderabad last season was chased by both MI Cape Town and JSK but the Sun TV-backed franchise held on strong. The Sunrisers also bagged Sisanda Magala for R5.4M p;pricing out their competition.

Rilee Roussouw was the other R6m+ purchase, with the Pretoria Capitals going all in for the middle-overs aggressor. A versatile and experienced hard-hitter, Roussuow will be key to the Capitals’ chances this season. They also added Wayne Parnell for a staggering R5.6M, while Jimmy Neesham was purchased in the accelerated auction. Other notable picks include Phil Salt, Adil Rashid and Kusal Mendis.

Eoin Morgan also fetched a deal with the Paarl Royals after initially going unsold in the auction. However, the same could not be said for South Africa’s T20 captain Temba Bavuma who failed to find a suitor. South Africa’s Test captain Dean Elgar also went unsold.

It was the Paarl Royals who got the auction going with purchases of Lungi Ngidi and Tabraiz Shamsi to kick off proceedings. Quite aggressive from the start, the Royals then added Jason Roy, Dane Vilas, Bjorn Fortuin exhausting most of their budget. Paarl were interested in quite a few players in the end, but were priced out with teams having more budgets left.

Joburg Super Kings did their business the CSK way, picking up players unassumingly and building a strong squad. While bidding aggressively, JSK did not break the bank, signing the likes of Reeza Hendricks, Harry Brook and Janneman Malan. JSK made their most expensive purchase late in the day, paying a whooping R5.5M for the little-known Donovan Ferreira.

MI Cape Town made the smart purchase of Rassie van der Dussen for just R3.9M which could prove to be a bargain for the Reliance-owned outfit. The team also added Duan Jansen, who was once under trial by Mumbai Indians and is the twin brother of Marco Jansen. George Linde, Ryan Rickelton and Beuran Hendricks were amongst the other notable picks.

Durban Super Giants entered the fray late in the marquee set and bagged Heinrich Klassen and Dwaine Pretorius. Later, the franchise added Keshav Maharaj and Johnson Charles to their ranks to further strengthen their side. Kyle Abbott, Dilshan Madhushanka and Simon Harmer further add depth to the side.
