SA Test Squad Australia: SA Tour of Australia: Pacer Gerald Coetzee has earned a maiden Test call-up for the Australia Test tour, beginning December 17. With no surprise in the Test squad, Temba Bavuma has retained his place while Rassie van der Dussen has also returned. Dussen missed the T20 World Cup with an injury but he is now ready to come back. Theunis de Bruyn has also received a recall after being dropped back in 2019. However, the biggest omission is of Aiden Markram, who has been dropped from the Test side. Gerald Coetzee is the latest addition to SouthAfrica’s pace unit. He has had a wonderful domestic season, picking up 40 wickets at an average of 28.82 in his 13 matches.
Theunis de Bruyn, who last featured for the national side in 2019, is also making a comeback. The right-hander, who has 12 Test caps, has enjoyed success in the CSA 4-Day Domestic Series.

Rassie van der Dussen has recovered from the finger injury that cut short his tour to England earlier in the year. Keshav Maharaj who suffered a muscle injury is cleared for the tour. The spinner sustained a low-grade groin muscle injury at the T20 World Cup in Australia. He is currently undergoing treatment and rehabilitation.
Wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen replaces Ryan Rickelton. The first-choice keeper played the last of his three Tests against England in September. But an ankle injury has forced him to be overlooked. Meanwhile, top-order batter Keegan Petersen is also unavailable after sustaining a severe injury to his hamstring.

“There is a welcome return for our vice-captain Temba after his injury. We are also happy to have Rassie back too following his finger injury in England. I am especially excited about our pace attack, which is no doubt growing in stature and strength,” National Convenor of Selectors Victor Mpitsang said.
The squad will depart for Australia on 01 December. As part of their preparation, Dean Elgar’s side will play an unofficial four-day match against Cricket Australia XI from 09 – 12 December at the Allan Border Field in Brisbane.
The three Tests are likely to determine the World Test Championships finalists. A series win for SouthAfrica will all but confirm their place in the WTC Final 2023. Australia are currently at the top with 70 percentage point while SouthAfrica are 2nd with 60.
