Ruturaj Gaikwad to play for Yorkshire in County Championship during IND vs ENG Test series

Ruturaj Gaikwad to play for Yorkshire in County Championship during IND vs ENG Test series

Gaikwad was part of India A squad that played two matches against England Lions, but didn't get a chance to play.

Ruturaj Gaikwad hasn’t been able to crack into the Indian Test side for the England tour. However, he remains optimistic. On a long series like the upcoming one, injuries and players going out of form are expected. So, Gaikwad has decided that he’ll be ready if Team India needs a backup batter.

Ruturaj Gaikwad signs for Yorkshire

The batter from Maharashtra has signed up with Yorkshire to play for them in the County Championship Division One. The tournament will restart on June 22, but Gaikwad will join in July, with a match against Surrey at Scarborough being his first-ever County match.

This means that Gaikwad will be in England during the last two India vs England Tests. He hadn’t been able to get game time for India A against the England Lions and since the Indian domestic season won’t start before September, he has some time to enhance his red-ball skills by playing in England.

Gaikwad will also be available for selection for Yorkshire in the One-Day Cup, which runs from August 5 to September 20. As for his County Championship participation, the tournament will run until September 27 for him. Whether he’ll be available to play in England until then is another thing.

“I’m excited to be joining up with Yorkshire for the rest of the English domestic season. It has always been a goal of mine to experience cricket in this country and there is no bigger club in England than Yorkshire. I know how important it is that I hit the ground running at what will be a crucial part of the season. We have some vital games in the County Championship and the One Day Cup is a great opportunity to win some silverware,” Gaikwad said after joining Yorkshire.
