Brendon McCullum reminisces epic first match of IPL
The date 18th April is special in the history of this competition, as on this day way back in 2008, Kolkata Knight Riders took on Royal Challengers Bangalore in the inaugural match of IPL. Brendon McCullum played a crucial role in the boom of franchise cricket’s popularity, as he scored 158 runs in that match.
Reminiscing that match and the growth of IPL, the player-turned-coach said “Nobody that supports the IPL or cricket in general realised quite how big this tournament was going to become. We all found out that night what it means to all the people who follow cricket in India and around the world. It was nice to play a small hand in that.”
