Rohit Sharma’s record breached by Glenn Maxwell! PBKS star hits 49-ball 109 at MLC 2025

Glenn Maxwell had a horrible IPL 2025, averaging a mere 8.00 after six innings before getting injured.

Glenn Maxwell has roared back into form in spectacular fashion, smashing a brutal 49-ball century for Washington Freedom in the 2025 edition of Major League Cricket (MLC). With 13 towering sixes lighting up the Oakland Coliseum, Maxwell’s unbeaten 106 off 50 balls came in front of his watching parents and silenced any doubters after a dismal IPL 2025 with Punjab Kings (PBKS).

The swashbuckling right-hander, who managed just 48 runs in six IPL innings earlier this year, walked in at No. 6 with the Freedom trying to set a target against the Los Angeles Knight Riders. In fact, the score was 68/4 when Maxwell entered. Soon, it became 92/5.

After crawling to 11 off his first 15 balls, Maxwell exploded, hammering 95 runs in his next 34 deliveries. The knock was match-changing to say the least. It propelled WAF to 208/5, a target that seemed unattainable at one point. Maxwell ended up with 106* off 49.

Maxwell equals Rohit Sharma’s record

With this century, Maxwell equalled Rohit Sharma in the all-time list of most T20 hundreds. Rohit, along with Jos Buttler, Aaron Finch, Michael Klinger, and David Warner, had all scored eight hundreds in the format. Maxwell’s latest hundred takes him to eight as well, placing him joint-fifth on the list before Virat Kohli and Rilee Rossouw—only Babar Azam (11) and Chris Gayle (22) are ahead. This is a huge record for Maxwell, who bats in the middle-order and is not a top-order dasher.

Additionally, Maxwell became the first cricketer in the world to complete the rare T20 triple: over 10,500 runs, 170+ wickets, and five-plus T20 hundreds. Only Chris Gayle (22), Babar Azam (11), Rilee Rossouw (9), and Virat Kohli (9) sit above him in terms of overall T20 hundreds.

So far in MLC 2025, Maxwell has tallied 149 runs in three innings at a staggering average of 149.00 and a strike rate of 204. His return to form could not have come at a better time—with a T20 World Cup next year, the ‘Big Show’ is back in business.
