Former Indian cricketer Krishnamachari Srikkanth asserted that veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were undroppable players for the T20 World Cup 2024. Srikkanth’s remarks come a day after India unveiled their squad for IND vs AFG T20I series, with Sharma and Kohli making their return to the shortest format. The series will mark the start of India’s journey to the T20 World Cup 2024, set to commence in June.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, the former selector opined that Virat Kohli was a certainity in the side and so was Rohit Sharma. He claimed that while the Hitman might have gained confidence after batting in the ODI World Cup 2023, he would attempt to regroup and play well in the IPL. Srikkanth asserted that Rohit cannot be dropped if he made himself available for the T20 World Cup, noting that he was a part of the victory in the inaugural edition in 2007 and that he would want to exit the arena by doing so in 2024.
“Virat Kohli is a certainty. He is in great form. Rohit Sharma, maybe, is confident because of how he scored in the World Cup. He will regroup and try and do well in the IPL. If Rohit Sharma says I am available, you can’t say you will drop him. At the end of the day, Rohit Sharma is also hurt that he has lost a World Cup. He would like to go out with a World Cup in his hand at least. He was there in the 2007 World Cup. He would want to do something similar, win a World Cup, and go out,” Srikkanth said.
He added that Kohli would definetly want to win the World Cup, noting that he had played he event just 13 months back. Further, Srikkanth said that the captaincy can be given to Hardik Pandya based on his fitness.
