India cricket team captain Rohit Sharma has no plans to retire from ODIs and he made that very clear after the Champions Trophy victory. While there was a lot of speculation around if the Hitman will call it a day in the 50-over format, he has brushed those rumours aside and instead is now focusing on the 2027 ODI World Cup. India will be aiming to add yet another trophy to their cabinet after narrowly missing out on the last one due to a heartbreaking loss to Australia in 2023.
Rohit Sharma’s next goal: 2027 World Cup
As per Cricbuzz, Rohit is collaborating with assistant coach Abhishek Nayar to work on his fitness, batting and approach ahead of ODI World Cup 2027. The Indian captain will be 40-years-old at the time of the tournament. However, Sharma has a plan in place to remain fit for the tournament and has already started showing signs of working on it.

He earned the Player of the Match award for his heroics in the final against New Zealand after a string of sub-par performances in the group stage and semi-final of the tournament. Rohit categorically brushed aside rumours of his retirement from ODIs, stating that he has no such plans whatsoever.
He will next be in action in the IPL 2025. A report also stated that a call on his inclusion in the IND vs ENG Test series, which begins in June, will be taken after the conclusion of IPL 2025. It remains to be seen if Rohit will still continue to lead the side in the 50-over format in the future or if he hands over the reins to his potential successor Shubman Gill in the future.
