The India cricket team will tour England for a 5-match Test series in June. And while the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 might be getting all the attention, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is certainly planning for the India vs England Test series.
And Rohit Sharma will be one of the biggest talking points for the BCCI. The India captain didn’t feature in the last Test match they played. He had to drop himself amid his horrid form.

And with growing age and dipping form, there have been talks of removing Rohit as the captain and even moving on from him. But retirement isn’t in BCCI’s hands. He can be moved on from, but Rohit will decide when it’s time to hang up the boots in Test cricket.
Does Rohit Sharma still stand to be India’s Test captain?
Steve Waugh, who is statistically the greatest Test captain of all time, thinks that Rohit Sharma has to introspect on what he wants. He has to question whether he has the will to play Tests and to lead India.
“It is totally up to him. He is the only one who can solve that problem. He has got to look himself in the mirror and say, do I still want to be captain or play for India? Am I committed? Am I putting enough time and effort into it?” Waugh told PTI.
Being India’s captain is easier said than done. There are expectations. Wins may be appreciated but not as much as losses are criticised. Rohit took responsibility and dropped himself for the good of the team. But you don’t want your leader to fail. He must lead by example.
“It is a privilege and an honour to play for your country. You can’t be complacent or relax,” he added.
