Rohit Sharma has landed in Mumbai. The India cricket team captain lifted the ICC Champions Trophy yesterday and, in less than 24 hours, has returned home. The opener isn’t the first to travel back to India from Dubai. India head coach Gautam Gambhir had also left for Delhi in the evening.
Rohit Sharma arrives in Mumbai
For the unaware, after winning the 2024 T20 World Cup, Team India celebrated the victory by doing an open-bus parade in Mumbai and then stopped at the Wankhede Stadium to end the party. However, that won’t be the case this time around. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided that players will travel separately.
IPL 2025: Reason for no Champions Trophy celebrations
The reason behind this is the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The 18th edition of the tournament will start on March 22, and players have less than 2 weeks to prepare for the T20 event. BCCI realises that the IPL franchises would want the players to join the training camp as soon as possible.
That won’t happen if all the players have to assemble at one location. The preparations have already begun. Mohammed Siraj, Ishan Kishan, and Abhishek Sharma are some of the players who have already joined their teams. But none of the 15 players in Team India’s ICC Champions Trophy would be able to do that, especially if the victory parade takes place.
