Indian batter Jemimah Rodrigues had a day to remember in the 2nd ODI against Ireland at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot. She smashed her first-ever ODI century, becoming the 10th Indian woman to score 1000 runs in ODIs. Runs were flowing off her bat like a spillage of water, with Rodrigues joining an elite list of Indian greats, led by Mithali Raj, who tops the chart with 7805 runs for the Indian women’s cricket team.
Reaches 1000 Runs & converts it into a 100, Jemimah!
Rodrigues hit the 1000-run milestone early in her innings, but she wasn’t done there. She displayed grit and patience to turn the opportunity into her maiden international century. The standout moment came in the final over, when she cut Arlene Kelly past point to reach her hundred.
Her celebration was just as memorable—Rodrigues mimicked playing a guitar with her bat, a gesture that resonated with fans and teammates alike. Thus, the headline reads a “rockstar”. Skipper Smriti Mandhana led the applause from the sidelines, who missed out on her hundred as she got out on 73 off 54 balls.
“It Was a Long Wait,” Says Jemimah
Speaking to broadcasters after the match, Rodrigues admitted that the century had been a long time coming. “It has been a long wait to get this hundred. Glad that the team gave me a role at No. 4, and I could deliver,” she said. She also emphasized her determination to stay till the end of the innings. “Getting runs is not a problem, but being there till the 50th over was important. Harleen (Deol) supported me through the innings, and I’m glad we could finish strong.”
India post record-breaking ODI total
Rodrigues’ knock was key to India posting their highest-ever ODI score of 358/4. Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal set the tone with a blazing 156-run opening stand. Although India lost quick wickets, Rodrigues and Deol rebuilt the innings before unleashing a flurry of boundaries in the last 10 overs, adding 102 runs in that period.
