Rishabh Pant wasn’t ready to ‘commit’ to Delhi Capitals? Co-owner Parth Jindal shares IPL 2025 insight

Pant had made their IPL debut with the Delhi Capitals in 2016 and was named their captain in 2021.

Parth Jindal, co-owner of the Delhi Capitals (DC), has revealed why the franchise decided they’d let go of their captain Rishabh Pant before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. Been with DC since the start of his IPL career, Pant had developed a close bond with not just DC but Parth as well. The JSW owner had become one of his biggest admirers and was by his side throughout his tough times (after the accident).

That is exactly why Pant shared a heartfelt post on his social media after it was confirmed that he’d join the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), and the franchise (Parth separately as well) also bid their most-capped player adieu.

Why Delhi Capitals let Rishabh Pant go

Explaining what led to the split between Pant and the Capitals, Parth said that the wicketkeeper batter wanted to have control over who should be DC’s coach and Director of Cricket, something the owners felt was out of line. Such decisions were subject to JSW and GMR. But Pant wanted to expand his plumage. Neither party was willing to budge, and therefore, DC decided it was best to let Pant go to the IPL 2025 auction.

“I think we were on different wavelengths. He felt that he felt that he should have a say in some of these things (coach and director of cricket decisions)and we felt that’s a franchise prerogative, so we couldn’t really agree. We agreed to disagree,” Parth told Sports Today.

“We were willing to take that chance because of my relationship with Rishabh. Obviously, Delhi has two owners, GMR and JSW, we were all on the same wavelength, Kiran and I, in terms of what we discussed with Rishabh. When we felt that commitment from his side was not forthcoming, then we felt it was better that he goes into the auction and we target somebody else in the auction,” he added.
