Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) had something to smile about on Friday night when they beat the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Still placed at bottom of the points table, LSG took their revenge on CSK despite the Yellow Army scoring 188 in the first innings. Rishabh Pant’s men, however, were superb on the field. However, Pant has been fined by the BCCI due to slow over-rate.
Pant fined INR 12 lac
Chennai’s innings went above the scheduled timing as Pant failed to contain the time limit. Kartik Sharma’s 71 off 42 was the only highlight for the visitors in Lucknow. For LSG, left-arm pacer Akash Singh was superb, rattling CSK’s top order. However, the usage of 16 overs from pace might’ve worked against Pant in terms of monetary damage. He has been fined INR 12 lakh for his first offence of the IPL 2026.
IPL’s media advisory read:
“Rishabh Pant, Captain, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match No. 59 of TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Friday.”
With this, Pant has joined the unwanted list of captains who have been fined for slow over-rate. Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel and Ajinkya Rahane have all recieved fines. Shreyas Iyer is the only one who has defaulted twice, resulting him a total of INR 36 lakh fine.

Slow over-rates penalty in IPL
BCCI now aims for matches to finish within 3.5 hours, including both innings and breaks. If the bowling team does not start the 20th over by the scheduled time, they must bring an extra fielder inside the 30-yard circle (allowing only four fielders outside) for the remainder of the innings.
