Rishabh Pant frustrated with Shardul Thakur after bowler delivers five consecutive wides, bowls longest over

IPL 2025, KKR vs LSG: Until the 16th over of the second innings, Lucknow Super Giants bowlers had given away 19 runs in wides.

Defending 239, you just don’t expect any skipper to be frustrated with your bowlers. But then, just imagine the position of Rishabh Pant, who had to deal with the LSG bowlers leaking runs, left, right and centre. The 27-year-old skipper just couldn’t believe himself when his bowlers started going for plenty. Such was his situation, that he did not shy away from having a word or two with his bowlers.

Rishabh Pant Unimpressed With Shardul Thakur

Actually, it wasn’t even about just leaking runs too. It was about the wides that was taking a toll on Pant. First Akash Deep delivered seven wides, and then it was Shardul Thakur, who in the 13th over, came up with five wides on the trot. On one occasion, the bowler did want the captain to review the wide decision, but that really vexed Pant, who is dealing with poor batting form himself. Eventually, he had to send Shardul back to his bowling mark, to complete his over again.

Longest Over in History of IPL

Those five wides by Shardul meant, he bowled the longest over in the history of IPL — consisting of 11 deliveries. Surprisingly, his Mumbai teammate in domestic cricket, Tushar Deshpande too had bowled an 11-ball over in 2023, in CSK vs LSG match. The duo aren’t the only ones as Mohammed Siraj had achieved a similar feat. In RCB vs MI in 2023, he too had bowled an 11-ball over.

Digvesh Rathi Continues with Notebook Celebration

That was an increment of an additional over, which only added to LSG’s woes. Earlier, spinner Digvesh Rathi too had left no stone unturned, in getting an angry reaction out of Pant. The bowler kept changing the fields, which prompted the former to say, “Mereko fielding lagane de (let me set the field).”

As far as the KKR vs LSG clash is concerned, Lucknow batted exceptionally well, with Mitchell Marsh scoring 81 and Nicholas Pooran going on to score 87 from 36 deliveries only. Aiden Markram contributed with 47, but surprisingly, Rishabh Pant demoted himself in the batting order.
