‘Rich’ Mitchell Starc teased by ex-teammate for his record-breaking IPL bid

Starc got Rs 24.75 crore in the recently concluded IPL 2024 auction, the highest bid for any player in the auction's 17-year history.

Mitchell Starc is made of money. At least that’s what former Australian cricketer-turned commentator Trent Copeland thinks. With play halted on Day 1 of the AUS vs PAK due to rain, the fast bowler joined 7Cricket in their studio during the tea break.

While talking with Starc, it seemed like Copeland had to cough. Mocking the pacer, Copeland pulled a dollar out of his nose and threw it onto Starc, indicating the pacer is ‘full of money’.

Not expecting it, the pacer started laughing, with fellow teammate Ricky Ponting also chuckling.

Engaging in the banter, Starc picked up the dollar and said to Copeland, “You might need that.”.

For the unaware, Mitchell Starc recently attracted the highest bid in IPL auction history. Going under the hammer in the IPL 2024 auction on December 19, the bid on Starc started at his base price of Rs 2 crore. When the bid ended, the left-arm pacer was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 24.75 crore.

Not only did Starc beat the previous record, he beat it handsomely, ranking 4.25 crore more than his teammate Pat Cummins (20.5 crore).
