Relief for cash-strapped Pakistan Cricket, media rights & PSL to rake in billions

After Zaka Ashraf tenure ended in disappointment, Pakistan Cricket Board is eying a much-needed financial boost through sale of rights.

Good days are ahead for Pakistan Cricket under new chief Mohsin Naqvi. After Zaka Ashraf failed to finalise many deals, the full-time PCB chief has set his sights on Pakistan cricket media rights, PSL broadcast rights and sponsorship deals among others. In all, PCB will rake in millions of dollars. PCB shelved Women’s PSL plans due to financial trouble. However, with the sale of rights, PCB could go ahead with the plan.

  • PCB production rights

Pakistan Cricket eyes windfall

As per a Cricket Pakistan report, PCB is eying upward of PKR 10 billion in all. PCB expects PKR 6 billion from the sale of bilateral broadcast rights while live streaming of each match could help the board earn PKR 8 million.

Pakistan also expect to earn over PKR 1 billion from the sale of series sponsorship and PKR 600 million annually from sale of kit sponsorship deal.

Local company favoured for production rights

Another crucial deal Pakistan Cricket will be looking at is production rights. PCB is expecting around $7 million from the sale of production rights.

With the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 next year, the producer of Pakistan’s home matches could also bag the ICT rights.

However, instead of going with an overseas TV producer, PCB is looking at local companies due to reduced production cost.

However, it is still unclear whether Pakistan will host the competition in full or partially. BCCI is unlikely to send India Cricket Team to the neighbouring country. And that could also hamper the ICC Champions Trophy production deal.

Even though PCB has signed the tournament host agreement with the ICC, it asked for a guarantee on India’s participation. However, a decision on that is currently pending.
