Real Test for Bazball! Brendon McCullum points to crucial IND vs ENG Test series as make or break

England will tour India for a 5-match Test series from January to March next year which will be a real test for Bazball

England head coach Brendon McCullum on Monday expressed his excitement at the upcoming IND vs ENG 5-match Test series, claiming the series will be the real test for ‘Bazball’.

England will tour India for a 5-match Test series from January to March next year. The first Test will be played in Hyderabad from January 25. The other venues for the series are Vishakhapatnam, Rajkot, Ranchi, and Dharmsala.

“We have got a huge challenge against a very good Indian team in five tests in India. It is going to be a good challenge for us. If we have success then fabulous, if we don’t then I know we will go down in the style that we want to go down,” McCullum said at the RCB Innovation Lab’s Leaders Meet India in Bengaluru.

Brendon McCullum, the innovator of ‘Bazball’, also explained his thought process behind following the concept.

“We are playing the game, because we love cricket and we want to try and be as good at cricket as we possibly can. During the time that you are in the chair, you want to make sure you enjoy it and you shouldn’t wait till the end of your career to do so,” McCullum said.

McCullum also expressed his confidence that this England team has stars yet to unlock their full potential.

“We are very lucky that we have had some immediate success but I don’t think it is the ceiling for us. I think we have seen some guys who have unlocked their potential in the last 18 months or so. That’s what the job is as a leader; to get the most out of the people that you’re in charge of,” he added.

England will have a tough task at hand beating the World Test Championship finalists in their own backyard when they visit India. The English team will be looking to shake off the disappointment of the ODI World Cup loss against Rohit Sharma’s India in the group stages.
