RCB vs RR, Eliminator Highlights: Rajasthan marches into Qualifier 2 with tight 4-wicket win

This will be just the second time the Rajasthan Royals have made it to Qualifier 2, having last gotten to it in 2013.

The Rajasthan Royals have defeated the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Eliminator of IPL 2024. Facing a side that was on a 6-match winning streak, the Sanju Samson-led side put up a splendid bowling display and then followed it up with a clinical performance with the bat. The Rajasthan Royals will now face the Sunrisers Hyderabad in Qualifier 2 on May 24.

RCB vs RR Updates

RR move into Qualifier 2

Rajasthan Royals have done it! They have qualified for Qualifier 2 and will face the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on May 24.

What are we witnessing here!

Mohammed Siraj has taken two wickets in the 18th over and sent both the set batters, Riyan Parag and Shimron Hetymer, back into the hut. Rajasthan Royals now need 13 off 12 balls.

RR: 160/6 after 18 overs.

Game on?

Mohammed Siraj has given RCB a glimmer of hope. He’s sent the set batter, Riyan Parag, back with a full straighter one. Rajasthan Royals now need 16 off 15 balls.

RR: 157/5 after 17.2 overs.

Hetty taking them home

Shimron Hetmyer is playing the finisher role perfectly. He’s scored 24 (11) and closed down all hopes of a RCB comeback.

RR: 154/4 after 17 overs.

Lucky RR

RR subbed Chahal with Hetmyer, and they have another explosive batsman here. Advantage Rajasthan at the moment.

RR: 133/4 after 15.2 overs.

Run out

What a dismissal here. Kohli is a livewire on the field, and Green completes the run out.

RR: 113/4 after 13.3 overs.

100 up

And in 12 overs, Rajasthan has brought up their 100. Jurel and Parag need to see the team through.

RR: 100/3 after 12overs.

Now Karn

What is happening here now. Another wicket falls as Karn Sharma removes Sanu Samson for 17.

RR: 86/3 after 10 overs.

Green strikes

Green gets a wicket. He gets Jaiswal for 45 and that is a huge blow.

RR: 83/2 after 9.4 overs.

Game over for RCB?

If RCB don’t get quick wickets, the match and their dream are all over for them. Six consecutive wins will go in vain if they don’t resist right now. RR just needs 99 off 72 to win now.

RR: 74/1 after 8 overs.

17 off the 7th over

Tom Kohler-Cadmore may have departed, but that won’t stop Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal from playing their naturally aggressive cricket. They have hammered Swapnil Singh for 17 off his second over and are on course to chase 173.

RR: 64/1 after 7overs.

A wicket at last!

RCB has got its opening. It’s their speedster, Lockie Ferguson, that has gotten them the lucky break. The Kiwi quick outfoxes Tom Kohler-Cadmore with a slow yorker.

RR: 46/1 after 5.3 overs.

Another drop!

Another chance goes begging! Glenn Maxwell has dropped a sitter in the deep. It’s Tom Kohler-Cadmore’s turn to get an early reprieve now. RCB already doesn’t have enough runs, and they have already dropped two catches.

RR: 36/0 after 4.1 overs.

Jaiswal & Kohler-Cadmore in full flow

After two quiet overs, the Rajasthan Royals openers have gone berserk. They have scored 29 in the last two overs.

RR: 35/0 after 4 overs.

Jaiswal dropped

Cameron Green has dropped Yashasvi Jaiswal at first slip. The catch wasn’t easy by all means, as the tall Aussie leaped to his right to take it over his head but would still go down as a chance.

RR: 10/0 after 2.2 over.

Solid start

Second innings starts and Swapnil Singh it is. Just two runs from the first over.

RR: 2/0 after 1 over.

Out

Sandeep Sharma has a wicket on the last delivery of the innings. RCB post a decent 172/8 in 20 overs.

150 up

After a bit of a struggle, 150 is finally up for the RCB team. Lomror is going good here and has scored 25 from 13.

RCB: 152/5 after 17.4 overs.

Controversy alert

Avesh traps DK in front of the wicket, is given out. But the third umpire reverses the decision. Sunny Gavaskar doesn’t agree with the call.

RCB: 134/5 after 16 overs.

Out

Now Avesh Khan has a wicket here. He gets rid of Rajat Patidar for 34 from 22 deliveries.

RCB: 122/5 after 14.2 overs.

Double trouble

First Ashwin gets Green, and then Maxwell for a duck. What a performance by the old horse, as Maxi continues to fail.

RCB: 97/4 after 13 overs.

Upped the ante

Green is trying his best to get some quick runs at the moment. And he is successful too, as he clobbers Avesh for a boundary.

RCB: 95/2 after 12 overs.

Green in action

Patidar and Cam Green on the crease, and they would look to counter-attack. And Green does. He gets a four and a six in the over.

RCB: 76/2 after 10 overs.

Out

There you go. As one was getting ready for a big one from Virat, he gives a simple catch in the deep by Kohler-Cadmore.

RCB: 56/2 after 7.2 overs.

What’s a good score?

RCB has laid the foundations of a perfect score. Kohli needs to bat deep.

RCB: 56/1 after 7 overs.

Game perfectly balance

Despite a wicket falling, the game is balanced. RCB has scored 50 runs, but given the number of runs that can be scored on this pitch, it may be a par powerplay score.

RCB: 50/1 after 6 overs.

What a catch!

Rovman Powell may have turned the game in the Rajasthan Royals favor with an incredible diving catch to send RCB captain Faf du Plessis back.

RCB: 37/1 after 4.4 overs.

Faf on fire!

Some heavy hitting from Faf du Plessis. He’s hit two fours to Avesh Khan, and Kohli hit him for a six as well. 17 come from the 4th over.

RCB: 34/0 after 4 overs.

Good batting

After a miserly first over, Faf and Kohli took the lead and scored 12 off Sandeep Sharma’s first over.

RCB: 14/0 after 2 overs.

Great first over

Boult has started things off nicely. Just two runs and two great balls troubled Faf and Kohli both.

RCB: 2/0 after 1 over.

Faf & Kohli in the middle

RCB openers are in the middle, and Trent Boult has the new ball in hand. Here we go.

Faf says

Would’ve done the same. Watching the game last night, there was assistance for the seam bowlers early on. This looks on the drier side with some fake grass on top. We’ve had that mindset right through. Focussing on your own skills, being true to the way you want to play. Last game against CSK was an unbelievable one. Less is more. People think when you get to the knockout stages, you need to be Superman. It’s just showing the boys that you trust them. Same team.
