Ravindra Jadeja creates milestone as No.1 Test all-rounder

With Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravichandran Ashwin retiring from Test cricket, Jadeja remains one of India's most senior players in the longest format.

Team India’s veteran, Ravindra Jadeja, has written his name in the record books by achieving the longest streak as the No. 1 Test all-rounder in the ICC rankings. Jadeja has held on to the position since March 9, 2022. As a result, he surpassed the likes of Jacques Kallis, Kapil Dev, and Imran Khan. His dominance in the format is a testament to his consistency with both bat and ball.

Jadeja on top since 3 years

Last year in 2024, Jadeja showcased his all-round brilliance, scoring 527 runs at an average of 29.27 and picking up 48 wickets at an average of 24.29. His performances were instrumental in India’s victories against England, Bangladesh, and New Zealand.

To note, Jadeja’s reign at the top has now extended to 1,151 days, making him the longest-serving No. 1 Test all-rounder in history. His 400 rating points keep him ahead of Bangladesh’s Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who is closing in with 327 points. Despite turning 36, Jadeja continues to dominate, proving that skill, fitness, and adaptability are key to sustaining elite performance.

With Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravichandran Ashwin retiring from Test cricket, Jadeja remains one of India’s most senior players in the longest format. His leadership and experience will be crucial in the upcoming five-Test series against England in June 2025.
