Speaking to India Today Consulting Editor, Rajdeep Sardesai, in an exclusive interview on Friday, Ravi Shastri talked at length about India’s ODI & Test skipper Virat Kohli. When asked whether he considers Kohli an all-time great in India, Ravi Shastri said that there is no doubt he is an all-time great.

“No question about that (Kohli is an all-time great). Not many become great players in their lifetime and he became one three years ago. He is enjoying the success. If his body and mind get a break at some stage it will be very good,” Shastri said in the interview.

On being asked further, if the rumours of drift inside the dressing room that says Virat Kohli has lost the confidence of players in the change room Shastri said that it is untrue. Shastri further says that Kohli deserves his due as a captain and has learned to ignore whatever is being written about him.

“He deserves his due as a captain, what he has achieved is unreal. What he has got used to is that there will be things written which is just there to stir the pot. A sportsman’s ability to ignore all that is what will make him play longer than he thinks. Ignorance is bliss. If he follows that and I think he is doing it, then he will not have a problem to play for another 6-7 years. Planted crap will always be there,” Ravi Shastri said.

Meanwhile, India’s new head coach Rahul Dravid has begun his coaching role as the Men in Blue are set to play three T20Is against New Zealand starting from 17 November. The T20 series will be followed by 2 Test matches scheduled later in the month.
