When the reporter asked Chennai-born cricketer Ashwin, “You are now the best all-rounder after Kapil Dev, And what do you think of that?”
Ashwin replied:
“I don’t want to sound too humble or too sceptical. But when you do something in your life, you want to be the best at what you want to do, right?, Kapil Dev is not just a great Indian cricketer but is one of the greatest cricketers the world has seen. And if you take up the bat and the ball, I suggest, any child, any kid that is taking the ball or the bat today must be aspiring to be the best in the world. It doesn’t matter who’s done it in the past, you have to want to be the best in the world.”
Ravichandran Ashwin has been spectacular with the bat along with his clever off spins and carrom balls, he was part of India’s famous test series win in Australia. The 36-year-old Ashwin with Hanuma Vihari helped India to draw the third test match in Sydney. Hanuma Vihari and Ravichandran Ashwin batted out the entire evening session on day five to save out a memorable draw against Australia. India eventually went on to win the test series by 2-1.

Ravi Ashwin surpassed Kapil Dev’s 434 wickets record against Srilanka in the test series in 2022 and became India’s second leading wicket-taker in test matches. Kapil Dev in 131 matches took 434 wickets and scored 5248 runs. Former Indian captain Anil Kumble is in the top spot for India’s highest wicket-taker list with 619 wickets in 132 matches.
