Being targeted: Rajasthan Cricket Association chief resigns from post after passing of no confidence motion

The Rajasthan Sports Council had written to the relevant bank to freeze the state cricket body's accounts due to non-payment of over Rs 40 crore in arrears, in addition to sealing the RCA office.

Vaibhav Gehlot, the president of the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA), resigned on Monday following the passing of a motion of no-confidence against him. Notably, Vaibhav is the son of former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.

Gehlot resigned after the Rajasthan State Sports Council (RSSC) sealed the RCA office on Friday for nonpayment of dues, as well as Sawai Man Singh Stadium, which will host IPL matches starting next month.

The Rajasthan Sports Council had written to the relevant bank to freeze the state cricket body’s accounts due to non-payment of over Rs 40 crore in arrears, in addition to sealing the RCA office.

“The RCA office was hastily locked. Now efforts have been started to create an atmosphere of distrust in the RCA by targeting me. Due to this, there is a possibility of spoiling the positive atmosphere of cricket in the state,” Gehlot said in a statement.

“In such a situation, it is unbearable for me that there should be any crisis on IPL matches in the state and cricket suffers loss. Therefore, to save the state’s cricket and cricket players from this situation, I voluntarily resign from the post of RCA president,” the statement added.

According to former chief minister Ashok Gehlot, Vaibhav resigned from his position because he was unhappy with the actions of the state government. He stated that the action against RCA is unacceptable.

“He (Vaibhav) has resigned because he was upset with the behaviour of the government. There was no need to bring a no-confidence motion. If the government itself had expressed its sentiment that we want you to step down, then resignation would have come,” Ashok Gehlot said.
